The last Congress Biotechnology Havana 2010, measured its success not only through the participation of 450 specialists from 36 different countries but because their results convinced competent authorities to set up with a biannual frequency a new Congress series specifically addressed to the Integral Care of Diabetic Foot Ulcer Patients with the Use of Heberprot-P. These congresses will have the goal to maintain and extend the cooperative specialists network addressed to spray the most advantages scientific results and therapies available to care diabetic foot ulcer patients. The Congress will be nicknamed with Heberprot, the name of the Cuban therapy for treating Diabetic Foot Ulcers meanwhile the suffix will detail the celebration year.

Heberprot-P 2012 will be held at the Havana Convention Palace during December 10 - 14 2012. The first two days (December 10 and 11) will be addressed to organize a Pre-Congress workshop practical course entitle: Practical Application of Heberprot-P in DFU patients. During December 12, 13 and 14 the Heberprot-2012 Congress will start under the frame of two symposia: Symposium No. 1 Clinical Trials analysis and implementation of strategies to implement health service units for treating DFU patients and Pharmaco survilliance of registered products. Symposium No. 2: Case analysis in DFU treatments and screening of limb ulcers in diabetic patients.

Three main reasons support this Congress call:

• the first one is linked with the extended experience in using Heberprot-P in DFU patients today applied in more than 48000 DFU patients from 14 different countries.
• The second one is linked to the fact that Diabetes affects today more than 290 million people worldwide with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) among its worst complications taking into account in many of the DFU patient its bad medical evolution generating large drain of resources from the health systems.
• The third reason is backed by our interest that by sharing our accumulated experience in the use of this therapy in DFU patients worldwide might benefit larger amount of affected people.

Heberprot-P is an innovative product contains epidermal growth factor (EGF) as active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to be applied by intra-lesional infiltration directly in the wound site. The therapy with Heberprot-P® fills the gap of an urgent unmet medical need for the treatment of complex DFU.

No doubt the Heberprot-2012 edition will be a good opportunity to joint world scientific leaders in ulcer treatments together with researchers, physicians and professionals from all over the world willing to share and discuss about their own experiences and results about these highly interesting topics.
